The shorter format of the game has taken the world by storm. Fans have developed a liking to this format. The matches get over in 3-4 hours and provide a good source of excitement and entertainment to the spectators. This version of the game demands the players to be on their toes at all times as one ball can change the entire course of the match. The Indian Premier League (IPL) has become a huge success in India as its brand value has soared to astronomical numbers over the past decade.

Women’s cricket was not very popular in India prior to the Women’s World Cup 2017. The Indian contingent, led by Mithali Raj made it to the finals and though they lost to England it saw a new dawn for women’s cricket in the country. The fans have been since demanding a separate T20 league for Women for the development of female cricketers. The BCCI has also announced a one-off T20 game ahead of the first Qualifier of IPL 2018.

Great initiative by BCCI

Indian skipper Virat Kohli had a very beautiful message for Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur who are the two captains for the one-off T20 game. He is very excited ahead of the match and urged the captains to show what people must look forward to. The match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium on 22nd May before the start of Qualifier 1 between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The two teams have been named Trailblazers and Supernovas. The same tickets that are used for Qualifier 1 can be used for the Women’s T20 challenge as well. Some of the best players in the world namely Alyssa Healy, Danielle Wyatt, Ellyse Perry and Mithali Raj will be a part of the game.
