Jacques Kallis, one of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game spoke about the Indian captain Virat Kohli in a recent interview. Kohli & Co. defeated the Proteas in the first One-Day International in Durban and Kallis was all praises for the 29-year-old after the encounter. During the Test series, the South African legend had criticized Kohli for his poor fielding placements at the same time also supported him given he is a young captain and will learn with experience.

Kohli has been in phenomenal touch at least in the last couple of years, he has been breaking records with sheer ease. His evolution as a cricketer has been wonderful as he has worked really hard on his fitness as well as his skills as a batsman. Kallis was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore setup in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and saw Kohli when he was raw and young.

The legend reckons that the IPL is not the only source of development for the Indian skipper, and believes that Kohli’s development happened a lot quicker than other players. He also talked about the IPL and how it benefits youngsters as they get to learn from world-class players during the course of the tournament.

The records show for themselves

The 42-year-old was also asked to rate Kohli among other world-class batsmen, he was asked about Kohli’s capability to play in all conditions to which he replied: “The records show for themselves”.

“He has obviously got the record to prove that at home. But yes, he is the one who looks capable of playing away from home pretty decently,” he was quoted as saying by The Mirror.

“He has progressed magnificently and that was one of the benefits of the IPL. A lot of Indian youngsters get to play with big and world-class players and are benefiting from that too. In the case of Virat Kohli, the IPL may not be the only reason for his development but the development may have happened faster for him. That is great to see, a youngster’s evolution,” Kallis stated.
