India have lost the first two matches against England at Edgbaston and Lord’s respectively and are 0-2 down in the five-match series. The third Test will be played from August 18 to 22 and Virat Kohli and his men have a daunting task ahead of them to arrest their slump. Their bowling has been able to step up, however, the batting has faltered miserably owing to which they are in a precarious position.

In the meantime, the Indian captain has developed a back strain and his participation in the next match at Trent Bridge in Nottingham has come under the clouds. During the previous encounter at the Home of Cricket, he sat out of the park for 37 minutes and couldn’t bat at number four, his usual position, after the dismissal of KL Rahul, one of India’s openers in the last match.

Virat updates about his injury

Ajinkya Rahane came ahead of him in the lineup. He couldn’t make much of an impact in the last match and perished cheaply on both occasions. Nevertheless, he has made a fast recovery and looks to be in good shape ahead of the crucial encounter, which might decide the fate of the series. Kohli scored a magnificent century in Birmingham followed by a gutsy half-century.

He is currently the leading run-scorer in the series with 240 runs thus far at an average of 60. India’s next top scorer is Hardik Pandya with 90 runs and it shows the visitors’ dismal batting display thus far. Ahead of the next match, Ravi Shastri, the head coach of the team, sounded positive about Virat’s chances of playing the upcoming encounter.

Recently, Virat also took to Twitter and uploaded a picture where he was seen honing his skills ahead of the match. He captioned the pictures and wrote, “Great day at training today. Looking forward to the next game,”
