Virat Kohli has hit a purple patch and lately has been on a run-making spree. As time passed by, he has grown in stature as a cricketer and has been an integral part of whichever team he represents. He has been consistent in all formats of the game and has racked up runs at will and with sheer authority. Meanwhile, he also has smashed quite a few records.

On the eve of India’s tour of South Africa, Virat Kohli stands on the verge of another record- this time of Sachin Tendulkar’s 21-year-old record. In January 1997, the Master Blaster smashed his way to 169 runs at Cape Town that included 24 boundaries. Mohammed Azharuddin notched a century too. However, they weren’t enough to save the game for India as the Men in Blue lost by a mammoth 282 runs.

Nonetheless, Tendulkar’s masterclass still remains to be the highest individual score by an Indian batsman in Tests at the Rainbow Nation. Nevertheless, 21 years down the line, Virat Kohli, the current Indian skipper has every chance of surpassing the record, bearing in mind the form he has shown recently.

A pleasant 2017 for Virat

Virat Kohli has had an auspicious 2017 both from the cricketing and personal front. Recently, he became the first international skipper to rack up six double-centuries in Test cricket. He also has scored eleven international centuries in 2017. Currently, the Indian skipper got hitched to Bollywood diva Anushka Sharma in a destination wedding in Italy.

Kohli is presently in Mumbai for the second-leg of his reception party after the one he gave at the Hotel Taj Diplomatic enclave in New Delhi. The South Africa-tour is expected to pose threats to the Indian cricketers and Kohli and co will have to be on top of their game in order for them to give the Proteas a run for their money.
