No cricketer has gathered divided opinions on him like Virat Kohli in the last one decade or so. While he is widely regarded as the best batsman in the world, it’s his attitude that has invited different opinions for him. While his teammates and well-wishers have heaped praise on him for his support and attitude, others have gone as far as calling him a brat.
Over the years, Kohli has faced severe criticism for his aggressive nature on the field. At the same time, the same attitude has entertained others. And as Kohli continue to divide opinions in the cricketing fraternity, former national selector Sarandeep Singh has also weighed in with his views regarding the India skipper’s attitude.
Sarandeep Singh on Virat Kohli’s attitude:
Speaking to Sportskeeda, Sarandeep Singh revealed Virat Kohli is a good listener. While Kohli’s behaviour on the field has made many believe that he is dominating in nature and does not listen to others, Sarandeep revealed that the batting superstar listens to everyone in the selection meeting before making a call.
“Whenever Virat comes, team meetings used to go on for 1, 1.5 hours. Virat is a good listener. I don’t know what people think about him. If you see him in the matches, he’s always charged up while batting and fielding. So it seems like he’s always hot and arrogant, and doesn’t listen to anyone. But no, he’s as down-to-earth as he seems aggressive on the field. In selection meetings, he was so polite. He always used to listen to everyone and then finally come to a decision,” said Sarandeep.
Speaking further, Sarandeep also revealed a different facet of Kohli’s personality. The former selector said that Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma manage their house, without any servants. Sarandeep was all praise for the 32-year old as he called him down-to-earth and a strong-willed person. He also defended Kohli’s style of expressive captaincy.
“At his home, there are no servants. He and his wife will serve food to everyone. What else do you want? Virat always sits with you, chats with you, and goes out for dinner with you. All the other players have so much respect for him. He’s very down-to-earth and strong-willed,” said Saranadeep.
“On the field, he needs to be that way because he’s the captain. He’s the one who’ll handle the pressure on the ground and make decisions in the heat of the moment,” he added.
