Pakistan young sensational batsman Babar Azam has quickly raised up the ranks. The 23-year-old is showing a lot of promise at such a young age. He has been quite consistent in the limited-overs cricket for a while now. He averages over 50 in both ODIs and T20Is proving his mettle. Given the brand of cricket that he plays, he was often compared with Virat Kohli from early on in his career.

Babar Azam plays with a radical approach just like Kohli and likes to display his emotions on the field. Very similar to Kohli early in his career, Azam doesn’t quite hit the big sixes. Furthermore, he hasn’t established himself in Test cricket as yet but is really good in the limited over game. However, in a media interaction on Monday, Azam quashed all the rumours of him being as good as Virat Kohli.

I’m not even close to Virat says, Babar Azam

Babar Azam was the Man of the Match in the second T20I against the West Indies. The right-hander remained not out on 97 in the first innings. He also scored his runs at a brisk pace but had to miss out on what would have been a well-deserved century. Pakistan team won that game quite comfortably by a margin of 82 thereby trashing the West Indies.

When Azam attended the press conference after the game, he was questioned about his similarities to Kohli. Azam was quick to respond and said in Hindi that “Virat Kohli legend hai. Mein unke paas paas bhi nahi hu. Mera ye hota hai ki mein unke paas rahu. Lekin log ye kehte hai ki mein unke paas hu”. This means that Virat Kohli is a legend and I’m not where close to him. He said that he tries to get close to Kohli but is quite far away at the moment. Azam added that it is the fans who constantly compare them both.

Babar Azam already has 7 ODI centuries to his name in just 41 games. He scored 1789 runs in as many games at an average of over 51 which also includes 7 half-centuries.
