Virat Kohli presents 'superfan' Uncle Percy with the best birthday gift

Percy Abeysekera, or Uncle Percy as he is popularly known, is a true ambassador of the sport like Sudhir Kumar Chaudhary and Chacha Cricket of Pakistan. Percy, a die-hard fan of the Lions can be spotted in every match that the team plays, irrespective of the place.

The extraordinary cricket enthusiast grew a year older today as he stepped into his 81^st year. His birthday was made even more special as he received the best gift of his life from Virat Kohli a day before. The Indian captain took out time before the presentation ceremony and went to meet Percy along with Shikhar Dhawan. Kohli kissed Percy on the cheek wishing him ‘Happy Birthday’ to which Percy responded by kissing the captain on both cheeks.

Speaking to mid-day on Saturday, Percy said “Before the presentation Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan came to me and wished me happy birthday. Then Kohli kissed me on my left cheek. I kissed him on both his cheeks”.

The trio of Kohli, Dhawan and Percy were seen having a gala time ahead of the presentation ceremony. They were spotted having a laugh together which was followed by hugs.

“I had lot of fun meeting them and when I kissed Kohli people around us started laughing. “Kohli said that he couldn’t believe that I am 81, I said that I am just two days younger than Sir Garry Sobers,” added Percy.

Percy then went on to narrate a blast from the past involving the Indian team. “When they came here last, it was raining heavily. In one of those rain breaks, Kohli and Rohit Sharma invited me to their dressing room to have some fun.” said Percy.

“I didn’t go as the International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption official raised an objection. But the secretaries of both boards stepped in and allowed me to visit the Indian dressing room.” said Percy.

“Today, Kohli recalled my funny dance in the dressing room that day and we laughed a lot.” he continued.

“When I was dancing madly, everyone in the dressing room was urging me to kiss Suresh Raina.” “He was very shy and they all said ‘kiss him, kiss him’. They even brought Raina to me and I kissed him left, right and centre. That brought the house down. Kohli and Rohit were jumping and laughing uncontrollably,” concluded Percy with a smile.
