Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli has been in a scintillating form in the recent past. He has amassed runs at will and no wonder his aggressiveness has reflected strongly on the performance of the Indian team. India has already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 4 match Test series and this is the first time an Indian skipper has won more than one Test on a Caribbean tour.
The rain played spoilsport in the 4th Test and also hampered India’s chances of retaining the top spot in the Test rankings. However, the Indian team players and support staff – skipper Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble in particular – took their time out to meet the legends of the West Indies cricket. Virat Kohli was absolutely ecstatic about meeting one of the greatest all-rounders of all time, Sir Gary Sobers.
It was the occasion of the 125th anniversary celebrations of the Queen’s Park Cricket Club at Port of Spain, where the India team members met the legends Sir Gary Sobers, Gordon Greenidge and Everton Weekes. The official Instagram handle of the BCCI posted pictures of their meeting with a caption, “A meeting to remember! Greats of the game Sir Garry Sobers, Sir Everton Weekes, Gordon Greenidge, India Head Coach @anil.kumble and Test captain @virat.kohli were all under one roof at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain.”
Fiery Indian skipper Virat Kohli wasn’t far behind either in showing his excitement on meeting Sobers. He also posted a picture with Sir Gary Sobers on his Instagram account and accepted that he has always been inspired by the legend. Kohli admitted that he was blessed to have had an opportunity to meet a legend like Sir Gary Sobers. He wrote, “What a moment when you go to meet the great man and he says ‘i was looking forward to meet you’. Absolutely in awe of this great man. Sir garfield sobers. Feel blessed to have had a conversation with him. #grateful”
Earlier the Indian team also had an interaction with Sir Viv Richards prior to the commencement of the series.
