Indian skipper and star batsman Virat Kohli has told his views that whether a One day International double hundred is nearby or not. As seen in recent times, looking at the standards of the game and the ability of all batsman around the world to score big runs is increasing with every approaching game. Which is the same thing India’s No 3 batsman Cheteshwar Pujara asked his skipper after getting to his sixth double hundred in the longer format of the game.

After becoming the leader of this Indian side, Kohli has changed drastically when we talk about his conversion rates in every format of the game. He now has 52 international hundreds across formats and 11 of them have come in this calendar year. His hunger for runs seem to have no limits, which is why everyone including Pujara feels he will definitely score a double hundred in ODIs in the coming years.

The openers get a better chance to score big

A patient Pujara interviewed his captain after he got to his second consecutive double century against Sri Lanka in the final Test match at New Delhi. Kohli was asked about when will he score his first double hundred in ODIs. He answered the big question stating that the openers have a better opportunity in limited overs cricket to get to the landmark. The 29-year old feels that if an early wicket falls, his aim is to stay at the crease till the end and carry on to score big runs for his team.

“Well, it is not something which I can plan. Openers have a better chance. Maybe if I get to bat early. (But) if the wicket is nice you rarely get to bat in the first two or three overs. When it is challenging you can go in as number three very quickly. You know that in Test matches also. I don’t know. If we are batting first in some game and the wicket is nice to bat on, somehow if I get to bat (early). You know I don’t want to be on the field in the first five overs because you want a good start. If I end up doing that, get a good start, maybe I can carry on. I have come close twice. But it is something which you can’t pinpoint,” answered the Indian captain in an interview with Pujara after the end of second day’s play against Sri Lanka.

Skipper praises Rohit Sharma

He also revealed that while his fellow teammate Rohit Sharma has score a double hundred twice in the ODI format, Kohli thinks he does not have that many shots in his armory which the latter has. The skipper also praised the opener for his fearless attitude and said that he is just unstoppable after scoring 130-140 runs.

“Rohit (Sharma) has done it two times. I don’t think that I can hit as many shots as him, in the later half of the innings. That is why he ended up doing that. He is unstoppable if he goes past 130 or 140. I will try to do it if I have enough overs,” Kohli added.
