Virat Kohli's name in Gorakhpur voting list stumps officials

In a shocking yet funny incident, Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s name appeared on a voter slip in the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency. Despite being a resident of Delhi, as per the voter slip, Kohli’s name was registered under Sahajanwa Assembly segment, with his voter number given as 822. The Lok Sabha bypoll is scheduled to be held in Gorakhpur on March 11.

The blunder was spotted by Sunita Chaubey, a booth-level officer, who informed her seniors about the same. The identity number in the voter list is RHB2231801 and the voter serial number is 822. Virat Kohli’s image on voter slip in Gorakhpur, funnily, is a headshot in his cricket jersey.

Investigation has been launched

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pankaj Srivastava said an investigation has been launched into the mix-up, as reported by News 18. The bypolls were necessitated after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya vacated the Gorakhpur and Phulpur seats respectively, following their election to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. According to the Election Commission, there are 19.61 lakh voters in Phulpur parliamentary constituency, while there are 19.49 lakh voters in Gorakhpur parliamentary.

The Indian skipper has been rested from the ongoing Nidahas Trophy being held in Sri Lanka along with former Indian skipper MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. He is currently devoting time to his endorsements and will soon begin promotional campaigns for Royal Challengers Bangalore who he will be leading the next time he steps on the field. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin on April 7 at Mumbai.

During his break, he endorsed International travel gear company American Tourister and has now joined hands with Uber India. Besides being the face of the brand, Virat will be actively involved in a series of innovative marketing and customer experience initiatives to be rolled out by Uber India.
