India’s ace skipper Virat Kohli looks all geared up to kickstart their title defence on Sunday against arch-rivals Pakistan in CT 2017. And while he remains occupied with the penultimate preparations, we take a look at captain Kohli’s brand value. He signed a mammoth deal of USD 110 million earlier this year with sports apparel brand Puma, thus becoming the first Indian sportsperson to land a deal that is in excess of Rs 100 crores. His current brand value is estimated to be in the region of USD 120 million.
These figures just go on to prove how successful the Indian captain has been as a player. Virat has also been dubbed as the prime contender to overtake the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni as far as brand endorsements are concerned. However, the Indian team skipper made it clear that his only priority is cricket and he does not want to be part of any race as far as commercial deals are concerned.
Brand value is just a number for Kohli
According to News18, Kohli was quoted as saying, “Well the Puma deal happened alongside MRF deal and my brand value should be somewhere in the region of USD 120 million. But these are just numbers for me and this is something that my management informs me about.”
The 28-year-old batting dynamo also revealed that he doesn’t sign a deal blindly. He went on to add, “I am part of every deal and no deal is blindly signed. And my management also doesn’t bring anything to the table that doesn’t connect to me. But still, it is subject to something that I like or not.”
India is one of the strongest teams in the world at the moment and they do have a great chance of defending their title if the team performs to potential. After having a mixed season with the willow in the IPL, the star right-hander will be on the lookout for some much-needed runs to lead Indian to defend the championship title. Thus, Kohli will need to step up his game and lead the batting line-up from the front.
