Virat Kohli terms England as an explosive T20 team

The World Cup has eluded England for quite some time now. Barring a T20 World Cup title, the England cricket team has had a dry run in the hallmark ICC tournament. They have failed to group together a team that has the capability of going all the way in big tournaments. We have seen some individual brilliance here and there but the team hasn’t quite lived up to the expectations collectively.

The 2015 World Cup was no different as England suffered a shock first-round exit. However, since then, the squad has undergone a major overhaul and their fortunes have turned around tremendously. England was one of the semi-finalists in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and have won six of the seven bilateral one-day international series at home since the last World Cup.

Top-class players

Virat Kohli, skipper of the Royal Challengers Bangalore feels that England has come a long way as a limited-overs side. “I think it is because of how they play their T20 cricket. The last couple of years, right from the T20 World Cup, they have been an explosive T20 side,” said Kohli as quoted by icccricket.com. The number of players participating in the IPL from England has increased tremendously this season. Sam Billings, Jos Butler, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali and Tom Curran are few of the big names among the franchises.

The Eoin Morgan led side also reached the finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 having suffered a heartbreaking loss at the hands of the West Indies. Apart from that, the team has won three out of seven bilateral T20 series. “People are sharpening their skills according to the format, and these are some of the best T20 players in the world right now. So you get picked in the IPL,” pointed out Kohli.

Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes playing alongside Virat and the run machine feels that they are top players and are very much suitable for the RCB culture.
