Virat Kohli tops the charts in the list of most Test double centuries as captain

India's equalled the all-time record of former West Indian captain Brian Lara for most number of double hundreds by a captain.

Indian captain Virat Kohli is enjoying the form of his life and it does not matter which format of the game he is playing. The batting icon scored his fifth double hundred as captain of the Indian team in the second Test match against Sri Lanka.

He has now become the first Indian captain to score five double centuries and also third in the list of most double centuries. The run-machine of the country also equalized the record held by former Windies legend Brian Lara for scoring most double centuries as the captain in Test cricket.


Virat played a mighty knock of 213 runs at a strike rate of almost 80 on the third day of the second Test against the Lankans at Nagpur. His innings was compiled with lots of fluent strokes and beautifully timed shots which were a treat to watch for the thousands of fans who flocked the stadium. He also achieved a lot of records with his special innings.

Just behind Sehwag and Sachin

India’s captain is currently ranked third in the list of players from the country to have scored most double centuries in Test cricket. The top position in the charts is shared by former Indian opener Virender Sehwag and the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who have scored six double hundreds each in Test cricket.

Looking at the ability and the intensity of the 29-year old, it is surely a matter of time, he gets to the top of the list. Kohli is also the only captain in the table to score more than a single double century in a calendar year.

India’s run-machine also equalled the all-time record of former West Indian captain Brian Lara for most number of double hundreds by a captain in the longer format of the game. It is also be noted that Lara took 85 innings to score his five double centuries, whereas Virat got there in just 49 innings. He also went past Sir Don Bradman and Michael Clarke’s record of four double centuries as captain.
