Vinod Rai, who is currently heading the Committee of Administrators was in all praise of the former Indian coach and leggie Anil Kumble saying he did his role ‘absolutely impeccable’. Rai also expressed that Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper would have no say on who the next Indian coach of the team would be.

Kohli’s side is currently without a head coach, with the team in West Indies for their five-ODI series. MV Sridhar is currently supervising the team under the absence of a head coach. The former coach stepped down citing the difference between him and the skipper. The leg-spinner was offered an extension for the West Indies tour, which he refused.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India, have expressed to replace the coach before the team plays against Sri Lanka. On Saturday, Rai had confirmed that they would be looking for an equally good coach, ensuring unity in the Indian dressing room.

The difference of Professional Opinion

The former India coach had expressed his disappointment on the various social media platform, where he cited the difference of style between the coach and the skipper as the reason for his stepping down.

“If two persons are thrown together for 24 by 7, there will be difference of professional opinion, so what’s there?” Rai said after a meeting of COA in Mumbai.

“His contract was for one year, there were perceptions, professional issues. He is more mature person, he decided that ‘Look, okay, fair enough.’ It is the captain who has to play on the field, isn’t it, ultimately?” said the head of CoA.

Rai also expressed that Kumble had been impeccable throughout his time at the helms of the affair in the Indian Cricket team, adding there is nothing to talk about the coach-captain issue. He went on to quash the rumours of Virat Kohli selecting the next coach, adding that Virat Kohli has never been involved in the selection process.
