The Indian captain Virat Kohli will be making his debut for England county for Surrey this season he is slated to play three List A and three first-class matches. The premier Indian batsman had a difficult time adjusting to the English conditions on the team’s last tour in 2014. In order to be prepared for the challenge this time around, he is travelling to the country well before the series against England. In his debut county stint, the Indian batsman will be playing under the leadership of Surrey captain Rory Burns.
Burns has the experience of playing 96 first-class, 42 List A and 31 T20 matches and the left-hander will now captain the Indian skipper Kohli, who is a batting heavyweight and termed among the best few in the world. Surrey Cricket Club confirmed Kohli’s signing for the month of June. The county stint has come at a cost for the Indian as he will miss the historic Test match against Afghanistan at home, which is scheduled to start on June 14.
Kohli looking to amend his Test records in England
On the last tour of England in 2014, Kohli scored a meagre 134 runs in 10 innings at a wanting average of 13.40. He faced a lot of hardship while acclimatizing to the English seaming conditions in the longest format of the game. It is also a fact, that the Indian skipper’s decision to play county cricket will benefit him as well the team as they eye a historic Test series victory against the Brits.
Kohli unlikely for the T20Is against Ireland
Team India is touring England in the month of July where they play 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and five Test matches between July 3 to September 7. Before taking on England, the Indian team is scheduled to play two T20Is against Ireland on June 27 and June 29. While, Kohli’s last match with Surrey ends on June 28 and the Indian captain is, however, also named in the squad for the two T20 international games.
Considering the schedule, it is determined that the Indian captain will be missing the T20I series in Ireland or at least the first match. To be able to play the last T20I he has to take a flight to Ireland right after his last match for Surrey.
