The Ranchi Test started with a misfortune for the Indian Team and their fans as captain Virat Kohli suffered a shoulder injury which sidelined him for the first two days of the Test Match. With the Australians putting up a husky total and finding their captain forced to the bench, the Indians made a comeback with the bat later in the day.

A lot of speculation surrounded Virat’s injury but there finally was some good news coming from the Indian camp as speedster Umesh Yadav decided to throw some light on Kohli’s injury. Yadav, who has been one of the better performers for India throughout the series, announced that the Indian skipper is ready to play the remaining three days of the match.

“Bandage will obviously remain after an injury. But I think he’s fit to play. The way he’s practising at the nets it seems he’s all set to come back,” Yadav said when asked about Kohli’s injury during the press conference.

The first two days saw the Aussies take full control of the match with captain Steve Smith leading by example. The 27-year-old skipper recorded a gutsy 178* and silenced his critics appropriately. Smith was well supported by Glenn Maxwell, who was called in for the third Test to replace Mitchell Marsh who was ruled out with an injury. We saw a different side of the batsman as he moved away from his comfort zone of attacking the ball from the very beginning and played a well composed innings to complete his century.

India responded with a solid start to the target set by the Australians and ended the day’s play at 120 runs for the loss of just 1 wicket. Captain Kohli’s batting might turn out to be deciding factor in the Test match and we are yet to see how the injured but strong batsman will cope up with the matter.

Kohli went off the field immediately on day one when he picked up an injury while chasing a drive from Peter Handscomb off a Ravindra Jadeja delivery. He had to spend the rest of the day with an ice pack to his aid in the dressing room. Virat took part in the warm-up session with his teammates at the start of the second day’s play at the JSCA Stadium but did not feature during the match to prevent any further and major damage.
