The former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth believes the ODI series victory of India in South Africa was not surprising with the form they were in the format. The Men in Blue thumped the home side by 5-1 in the six-match series and the only loss came in the rain-curtailed game in Johannesburg. The Indian skipper Virat Kohli reigned supreme over the bowlers everytime he came out to bat and led from the front. However, Srikkanth was amazed by his consistency and his hunger to score the runs for his team.

Kohli smashed as many as three centuries during the course of six matches in the series and accumulated a staggering 558 runs. He currently has 35 ODI tons to his name and now is only 14 behind from equalling the all-time great Sachin Tendulkar in terms of three figure scores. The cricketing world is literally short on adjectives with the way he is alone taking the team home with some breath-taking performances.

Srikkanth praises the bowling attack as well

Kris Srikkanth, in his column for Times of India, was all praise of Virat Kohli after he notched up back-to-back centuries during the series. “A 5-1 ODI series win for India was very much expected but the way in which Virat Kohli has led from the front is phenomenal. It looks like Kohli enters a cricket field only to score a century. The confidence and the positive attitude with which he goes about his business with the bat is tremendous. His appetite for scoring centuries amazes me and he seldom lets his energy levels drop, be it as a leader or as a batsman,” he wrote.

He was also thrilled to see the young pace attack of the team leading the way on the tour. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have bowled extremely well and young Shardul Thakur also scalped four wickets in the only game he played.

“What pleased me more in the final ODI was the contribution of our young pace attack in setting up the comfortable win. The performance of pacers Jasprit Bumrah and newcomer Shardul Thakur showed that we are not only dependent on the spinners in ODIs. It is a great sign for the Indian team going forward,” he added further.

Srikkanth also backed India to come out on top in the upcoming three-match T20I series which will commence on Sunday.
