Nepal began their journey at the grandest stage against the Netherlands with a disappointing 55-run loss in the first two-match ODI series earlier this week. They were given a slightly bitter taste of international cricket by the hosts as they collapsed from a comfortable position in the chase. However, the ODI debutants made an emphatic comeback in the next game to defeat the Netherlands by 1 run in a heart-wrenching encounter. Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag congratulated them for their first ever historic ODI victory.

Kami propels Nepal

After losing the first match due to poor show with the bat, the visitors were expected put up a better show in the batting department in the second ODI. Their skipper Paras Khadka won the toss and opted to bat first and his openers started things of pretty patiently. However, after adding 29 runs for the first wicket, Nepal kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

On the other hand, the captain was playing an important knock in which he scored 51 runs and took his team towards a fighting total of 215 runs. He also got some brave support from Sompal Kami who played an explosive inning of 61 runs off 46 balls in the end. For the home side, left-arm medium pace bowler Fred Klaassen was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped three wickets and gave away just 38 runs in his ten overs.

Lamichhane spins his magic

During the second innings, Kami once again came into the action, but this time with the ball and picked up the early wicket of the Netherlands opener Stephan Myburgh in the very first over to provide his team with the early breakthrough.

The hosts added 84-runs for the third wicket, but the 18-year old leggie Sandeep Lamichhane brought his team back into the game by picking up two wickets in a single over to dent the opposition. They kept on picking wickets at regular intervals even as the Netherlands came close to the victory and eventually sealed the thriller in the final over to win it by just 1 run.

The former Indian opener took to Twitter to congratulate the Nepal team for its memorable ODI victory in his own hilarious way and reckoned that they will win many more games in the future. He wished the debutants the best of luck for a prospering future in the 50-overs format

“Hijo jeet Syavasi , Nepal. Congratulations on your thrilling first ODI victory, Nepal. Hopefully, it is the first of many. Best wishes” wrote Sehwag on Twitter.
