The tenure of the current head coach of the Indian Cricket Team, Anil Kumble, expires at the end of the Champions Trophy 2017, which is why the BCCI opened applications for the same post on its official website. Several former players including Virender Sehwag threw their hat in it, and just as expected from him, this time too, Sehwag had a laugh to offer to fans and the like.
It has been reported that Sehwag submitted an only two-line resume for the job before the selectors asked him to submit a full-fledged resume. His application just said that he is a ‘mentor and a coach of Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League and has played with all these (Indian) boys before’. Along with Sehwag, the others who are in contention for the coveted post are Lalchand Rajput, Dodda Ganesh, Tom Moody and Richard Pybus. Meanwhile, Kumble will have to reappear in front of CAC and go through the interview process, just like last year.
“Sehwag being Sehwag has sent his application in two lines. There was no CV attached to it. We had to ask him to send his CV too along with his application. After all, it will be the first time he is set to appear for the interview,” source in the BCCI informed The Indian Express on Monday.
A Skype interview for Sehwag
Further reports on the Indian Express suggest that the former Indian opener, who was seen at the Edgbaston Cricket Stadium during the clash between India and Pakistan, is back to the country and will be doing commentary from India itself. As far as the three interviews are concerned (Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman) they will conduct an interview with Sehwag over Skype. However, given the success Team India enjoyed under Kumble’s tenure, it will be difficult for the BCCI to look beyond him for the post.
