The Indian education-system was outdated at the time it was constituted and the fact that it is still being persisted with fails the entire purpose. The central government directs the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to review the courses at various levels and to suggest updates if the need be. Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag highlighted some crap that is still published in Indian school books.

NCERT that publishes the books prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is led by the Human Resource Development Minister but has failed to play its part in the entire ecosystem. They’ve been slammed time and again for poor planning and the content that is there in the syllabus and what is print in the textbooks.

Sehwag who established the ‘Virender Sehwag International School’ shared an image from one of the textbooks which appears to be from the primary section. He highlighted a part which reads – “A large family: A Large family consists of parents, grandparents and many children. A large family cannot enjoy a happy life.”

He wrote that there is a lot of such crap in our school textbooks. He further highlighted the incompetence of those who decide on what’s published as well as the ones who review the content of these books. Sehwag thinks they haven’t done their homework.

His tweet read – “A lot of such crap in school textbooks. Clearly the authorities deciding and reviewing content not doing their homework”

The lesson could be in place with the objective to highlight the importance of having compact families which is important in a country like India, however, they missed the target by miles and landed a rather different message here. As per the latest estimate, the nation has crossed the 1.3bn mark on the population count and it has constantly increased governance and other issues.

Since his retirement from international cricket, Sehwag has been involved a lot more in social causes and those that appeal to him. He uses social media to express his opinion and point of view on various topics ranging from social welfare to government initiatives.
