Back in 2007, Virender Sehwag was touted to take the captaincy of the Indian team after the 50-overs World Cup in the West Indies. However, the swashbuckling batsman had a loss in form owing to which he lost his place in the team. The Indian team led by MS Dhoni entered and won the World T20 in the same year. Dhoni at the helm had his own demands from the team and the management had to bring in younger players and show the door to the senior players who didn’t fit the bill.

Thereafter, headlines surrounding Dhoni and Sehwag’s rift spread like wildfire. The rupture in their relationship sparked soon after MS Dhoni was handed over the mantle of leadership. Their relation first soured when Sehwag was benched and a rookie Yusuf Pathan was given an opportunity to play in the final of the World T20 final against Pakistan.

Sehwag was again benched in the tri-nation ODI series in Australia and was replaced by Robin Uthappa. Following the 2009 World T20, Sehwag also mentioned that he would like to captain the Indian team and not act as the vice-captain, something which added fuel to fire. However, after a few years, Viru did clarify that the gossips of his bitter relations with Dhoni are baseless.

He also expressed his desire to see Dhoni as the captain in the 2019 World Cup. The former Indian skipper turned 37 today and wishes have poured in for the enigmatic personality. Meanwhile, Viru also praised him for his all-around abilities.

He took to Facebook and also wished him on the auspicious occasion. He wrote, “Happy Birthday MS Dhoni .May your life be longer than this stretch and may you find happiness in everything, faster than your stumpings. Om Finishaya Namaha ! #NationalHelicopterDay”

However, one supporter commented on his post saying that Dhoni finished Sehwag’s career to which the batsman gave him a stern reply

Here is Sehwag’s reply
