The ongoing Test series between India and England has been dominated by the pacers so far thanks to the conditions on offer. There was a lot of talk before the series began about the scorching heat in the country. But things have changed dramatically since then and it has been an exhilarating contest thus far. Despite the fact that the spinners haven’t enjoyed much, Virender Sehwag now wants the visitors to play two spinners in the fourth Test in Southampton.

Virat Kohli has made a mistake once in the series by playing Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Ashwin at Lord’s where the conditions were conducive for the fast bowlers completely. The former has now been left out of the last couple of Tests and with an injury to the off-spinner, it is very much likely that India will go in with Ravindra Jadeja. But if Ashwin gets fit, the left-arm spinner will be benched again.

Why two spinners? Sehwag clarifies

Virender Sehwag believes that Team India is lucky to have two world-class spinners in their ranks and the conditions in Southampton might tempt them to play both of them. He also felt that it is important from their perspective for Ashwin to get fit in time and then attack England who are already low on confidence.

“Ravindra Jadeja could play along with Ashwin. India are lucky to have two spinners in their ranks who can bowl out oppositions. But it will be problematic if Ashwin is unfit as India will be handicapped if they play with only one spinner on a surface where two should play. I wish Ashwin gets fit and India field both of them. Another advantage is that both of them can bat so it will also boost the team batting,” he said while speaking to India TV.

With the series interestingly poised at 2-1, Virat Kohli-led Indian team will be eager to level it at the Ageas Bowl where the fourth Test will be played from August 30.
