The Pakistan Super League is an extravaganza where players from several countries grace their presence. However, barring the Finals, the tournament hasn’t been hosted by Pakistan thus far owing to security concerns in the war-stricken nation. In the previous season, several big names refrained from traveling to Pakistan following a case of suicide-bombing in Lahore. Kevin Pietersen has already refused to travel the nation even if his team qualifies.
However, Sir Viv Richards, the mentor of Quetta Gladiators, wants the tournament to be hosted in Pakistan instead of the United Arab Emirates. “Playing away from home is a bit disappointing. If more matches can be played in Pakistan that would be a plus. Even though there are many Pakistani fans here [in UAE], it’s not the same. If everyone gets on board, we can take PSL to Pakistan.” The former West Indies cricketer was quoted as saying in a recent media interaction.
PSL- A prestigious tournament
The legendary cricketer also hailed the PSL as a ‘high prestige’ event and also appreciated Sarfraz Ahmed’s character as a cricketer. “A lot of great players have graced this league. The Quetta Gladiators [management] make me feel at home here. Everyone is like a family. Sarfraz Ahmed is a magnificent person, who wants to do well every time. He thinks out of the box, he’s very smart. A true gladiator.” the Gladiators coach added.
Quetta Gladiators lost their previous game by five wickets against the Peshawar Zalmi. The Gladiators bowlers choked the Zalmi with some immaculate channels. However, Darren Sammy’s blitz in the dying stages of the game denied the Gladiators from registering their third victory in the league stage. The team will now face the Islamabad United on Wednesday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. They are currently sitting in the second position in the table, below the Karachi Kings.
