Vivo IPL 2016 Auction: Players bought, sold and unsold

The Vivo IPL 2016 auction took place in Bengaluru today. It witnessed 351 players go under the hammer, which includes 230 Indian and 121 overseas players.
Australian all-rounder Shane Watson earned the highest bid. Watson appeared at a base price of 2 cores and was bought by the Vijay Mallya-owned Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for 9.5 crores. This is the first time that Watson featured in the IPL Auction since joining Rajasthan Royal in the inaugural edition in 2008.
Yuvraj Singh, who recently made a comeback into the Indian set up was another huge gainer today. Yuvi was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad who shelled out 7 crores for him. The veteran was bought for a very low price compared to the last auction where he was sold for 14 crores to RCB.
The most eyebrow raising moment in the auction came today when Delhi all-rounder Pawan Negi beat Yuvraj Singh to become the costliest Indian player. Negi saw his base price of 30 lakhs skyrocket to an eyeball-popping sum of 8.5 crores. Negi, who used to play for the suspended Chennai Super Kings until last year, was bought by the Delhi Daredevils. It has been a stupendous transformation of fortunes for the youngster who was named in the Indian squad for World T20 yesterday but is yet to receive his national cap.
Other big earners today were Chris Morris and Mohit Sharma who were picked by Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab respectively. The former was bought for 7 crores while the Indian seamer earned 5.5 crores. Delhi also bought young Kerala wicketkeeper Sanju Samson and West Indian batsman Carlos Brathwaite for 4.2 crores each.
Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions, the two new teams introduced after the suspension of CSK and Rajasthan Royals, spent well and acquired many notable T20 specialists. In all, the Pune franchises bought 18 players while the Rajkot added 19 players to its team.
