The T20 format is ruthless. The best batsmen in the world are undone by local bowlers while the best bowlers in the world are hammed to all parts of the ground by domestic batsmen. The format is cruel and any player can have a bad day on the field. The margin for error in this format is close to nil. If a bowler misses his mark by a small distance, the ball will sail into the stands.

Rashid Khan is currently the best-limited overs bowler in the world. The youngster has had a dramatic rise to the top of the rankings. His variations are difficult to pick and he is a difficult customer for the batsmen. The Sunrisers Hyderabad rely heavily on the performance of Rashid Khan as he delivers four quite overs more often than not. However, in SRH’s last game against KXIP, Rashid had an off day as Chris Gayle smashed him for sixes after sixes while he was standing clueless.

Helpless bowlers

VVS Laxman, SRH mentor was not worried after the loss to KXIP. I think the batting was too good. When Chris Gayle is in that kind of form irrespective of who is bowling, his hitting power was on display. As far as the bowlers are concerned, if they execute their plans and bowl to their plan, they should be happy. How many runs they give should not matter as long as they bowl to a particular plan.” Laxman was quoted as saying by sportstarlive.com.

The big Jamaican hit 11 sixes in the match and scored a quickfire century to take his team to a monumental total. The SRH bowlers failed to keep Gayle quite and when the big man is in his groove, he becomes a nightmare for the bowlers.

The former Indian batsmen also felt that the fast bowlers did a great job in controlling the flow of runs. When the bowlers were going for over ten runs an over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar chipped in with quite overs as he conceded runs at just six per over. This was Hyderabad’s first loss of the season and they need not be too worried as it was just Gayle’s day and when he is in that kind of form, nothing can be done about it.
