Pakistan pacer Wahab Riaz who has been in the news following his non-selection in the national team has now been ruled out of the Pakistan Cup. The fast bowler has to undergo a nose surgery and that has ended his hopes for participation in the upcoming tournament. Riaz has had trouble with his nose for a while now and recently the doctors advised him to get it operated.
The surgery is expected to be carried out on April 28, 2018. Following the procedure, the pacer will have to rest for at least two weeks before he returns to the field. Thus he will not be in a position to play the Pakistan Cup, the domestic one-day tournament that ends on May 6. Earlier he was excluded from the Test squad that will travel to the United Kingdom where they play a series first against Ireland and then England.
Wahab miffed on being excluded from the Test squad
Riaz was clearly fazed after the squad was announced and his name was missing from the sheet. “If you look at my performances in domestic cricket or during the last Test match for Pakistan, you will see that I have performed well,” Wahab said while talking to media.
He said that he is doing everything to be eligible for selection however if he is still not picked there is little he can say about the decision.
“As a player, I am doing what needs to be done [to get selected], I am in no position to say anything about it. As a player, my job is to perform. Overall, I have performed in Tests whenever I’ve played and given my best. In terms of the wickets column, I think I will be on the top,” he said.
“Tour of England has never been an easy one. Even in previous tour, in the first Test it was Misbah’s hundred that was important and last one we won was due to Younis Khan’s double hundred,” he said.
