There is a lot of confusion going around in Indian cricket at the moment. It is all to do with the Pulwama attack and India’s fixture against Pakistan in the upcoming World Cup. The attack which took the life of 44 CRPF Indian personnel hasn’t gone down well with India. There have been deliberations whether India should play their arch-rivals at the showpiece event.

The Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators’ (CoA) sent a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) expressing their fears for the safety and security of players and match officials who will travel to England and Wales for the World Cup. They didn’t target Pakistan directly. However, they did mention in the letter that they urge the cricketing community to sever ties with nations that seem like a source of terrorism.

The new CoA member, Lt. Gen. Ravi Thodge expressed his views as well. He said that they are looking to isolate Pakistan by getting a consensus from other nations as well. However, he also acknowledged the fact that it is not going to be an easy process and they need to convince about 15-16 other members.

“We want to isolate Pakistan by getting a consensus among the other ICC member nations not to continue cricketing ties as long as they are harbouring terrorism. It is not going to be an easy task and it’s a long process. We have to convince 15-16 other member nations but we are keen on doing this,” Ravi Thodge was quoted as saying by CricketNext.

It is disappointing to see cricket being targeted

While India have been deliberating their participation, former and current Pakistan cricketers are in favour of the high-octane clash. Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed broke his silence on the India-Pakistan issue. He said that the match should be played and cricket shouldn’t be affected. He feels cricket shouldn’t be targeted for the sake of political gains.

“The India-Pakistan match should be played as per schedule as there are millions of people who want to watch this game. I just don’t think cricket should be targeted for political gains. It is disappointing to see cricket being targeted after the Pulwama incident. I don’t recall Pakistan ever mixing sports with politics,” the Pakistan skipper was quoted saying to cricketpakistan.com.pk.
