India all-rounder Washington Sundar impressed one and all with his performance during the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia earlier this year. Sundar had initially travelled to Australia as a spare bowler and was looking set to warm the bench throughout the four-match Test series.

However, he got a chance in the fourth game only both the first-choice spinners – Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin – were ruled out of the game due to injuries. Kuldeep Yadav was also available in the squad but the team management decided to go with Sundar because of his batting abilities and he totally justified the faith shown in him.

In the first innings, he dismissed Steve Smith for 36 before accounting for Cameron Green and Nathan Lyon to help India stop the hosts from touching the 400-run mark. But his best performance came with the bat. In reply to Australia’s first innings total of 369, India were reeling at 186 for 6. Sundar went on to score a fighting fifty on his debut and shared a 123-run stand with Shardul Thakur to help India score 336.

In the second innings, he dismissed David Warner for 48 and then played a crucial knock of 22 to help India chase down a record 328. The impressive performance at Brisbane’s Gabba has seen Sundar play three more Tests so far. Overall in four Tests, he has already scored three fifties with 96 being his best effort so far.

Washington Sundar’s tribute for his performance at the Gabba

In the news that Australia fans might not be best pleased with, Washington Sundar has seemingly named his pet dog ‘Gabba’. Less than two months after starring at the Gabba and breaking the Australian fans’ hearts with his all-round show, Sundar took to Instagram to share the interesting message. He posted a picture of himself standing with his mother, sister and the new pet dog.

In his caption, Sundar did not reveal the name of the pet but made it very clear by writing: “Lovely few days with the fam! Guess who’s the new member of the house? Hint: My Test debut!”
