On Monday, it was confirmed that Pakistan will host the World XI for a 3 match T20 series from September 10 in Lahore. The day was, in a way, historic for Pakistan cricket and fans as no International team apart from Zimbabwe has visited the country to play since 2009. Wasim Akram, the swing king of the country, was also happy and went on to post an emotional message on Twitter.

The Punjab Government approved ‘Presidential level security’ for the tour and the good news spread like fire across the country. Sri Lanka is already slated to visit the country for one off T20I in Lahore. Hours after the confirmation of the World XI series, it was reported that West Indies will also tour Pakistan for a 3-match T20I series later this year.

August 21 should go down in the history books for the country as they will finally see some international cricket. Especially the fans deserved this as they were deprived of some quality cricket all these years. The last team to visit Pakistan apart from Zimbabwe was Sri Lanka in 2009 when the militants attacked the team bus and several players were injured.

Wasim Akram leaves an emotional message

The joy of the former Pakistan cricketer, Wasim Akram, knew no bounds as he took to social media express his happiness. His tweet read, “I grew up watching my heroes play right before my eyes, now this generation will be able to do the same InshAllah #CricketIsComingBackHome.”

Cricket fans must be eagerly waiting for the World XI and also must be praying that the matches go on smoothly without any hiccups.

Now that things are finally looking up for Pakistan, fans would be hoping for smooth running of incidents so that cricket can flourish in the country once again.
