In the recent past, former England skipper Michael Vaughan has found himself on the receiving end of a lot of flak and criticism courtesy his controversial statements regarding the Indian team and the players. If we go by the social media posts of Vaughan and his statements in the past few months, one can easily deduce that the English skipper isn’t a great fan of the Men in Blue.

Something similar happened recently too as the veteran didn’t mince his words while comparing Indian skipper Virat Kohli and New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson. The two batting legends will be up against each other in the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship from June 18 to June 22 in England.

Speaking about the mega event, Vaughan went on to say that, “If Kane Williamson was Indian, he would be the greatest player in the world.” The veteran added that people on social media like to praise the Indian skipper and call him the best just to a few likes and comments.

The comments made by the English veteran didn’t go well with the Indian fans and he soon found himself getting subjected to a lot of hate and criticism on Twitter. Punjab Kings batting coach, Wasim Jaffer, who is known for his wit and humor, also gave an apt reply to Vaughan as he brutally trolled him saying that he pokes his nose in every matter.

“Extra ungli Hrithik ke paas hai par karta Michael Vaughan hai”Jaffer tweeted.

You say Virat is the best purely to get a few more clicks and likes: Michael Vaughan

During an interview, Vaughan backed Willaimson to score more runs as compared to Kohli and called him a better batter. Vaughan believes that Williamson might not have 100 million subscribers or endorsement deals like Virat but he is the best batsman across all formats.

“If Kane Williamson was Indian, he would be the greatest player in the world. But he’s not because you’re not allowed to say that Virat Kohli is not the greatest, because you’d get an absolute pelting on social media.”

“So, you all say Virat is the best purely to get a few more clicks and likes, few more numbers following here. Kane Williamson, across formats, is equally the best. I think the way he plays, the calm demeanor, his humbleness, the fact that he is silent about what he does,” Vaughan said.
