India, on Thursday, beat England by eight runs in the fourth T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The win saw India draw level in the five-match series. The outcome of the closely-fought series will now be decided by the fifth and final T20I, scheduled to be played on Saturday (March 20) at the same venue.
Asked to bat first, India scored 185 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav, who was batting in an international game for the first time, starred with the bat for the hosts, slamming 57 off just 31 deliveries. Shreyas Iyer also played a fine cameo towards the end, scoring 37 off 18 balls to take India over the 180-run mark.
In reply, England finished their innings on 177 for 8. The visitors were off to a poor start and were reeling at 66 for 3 in the 9th over at one stage before a 65-run stand between Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow revived their hopes. However, both the batsmen as well as captain Eoin Morgan departed in quick succession to leave England reeling at 140 for 6. The tail put up a good fight but England eventually fell short by eight runs.
Wasim Jaffer and Michael Vaughan engage in Twitter banter once again:
While India and England were busy fighting it out on the field, former cricketers Michael Vaughan and Wasim Jaffer were once again involved in a banter on Twitter. It all began when Vaughan took to Twitter to taunt Team India by pointing out how the Mumbai Indians players made an impact in the fourth T20I.
India had four players in their XI from the Mumbai Indians squad – Suryakumar, Hardik Pandya, Rahul Chahar and Rohit – for the do-or-die match. Rohit also captained the team for a few overs during England’s run chase in Virat Kohli’s absence. Suryakumar top-scored for the team while Pandya and Chahar picked up two wickets each.
And with all the Mumbai Indian players making an impact in the game, Vaughan cheekily pointed out that the players from the franchise helped India win the game.
“Just a thought … @surya_14kumar Mumbai Indian … @hardikpandya7 Mumbai Indian … @ImRo45 captaincy Mumbai Indian !!!! @mipaltan #JustSaying #INDvENG,” Vaughan tweeted immediately after Roy got out in the 9th over.

And Wasim Jaffer decided to shut down the outspoken former England captain once again. Vaughan has been regularly mentioning how the Mumbai Indians players have had an impact in the series. Earlier during the ongoing series, he had mentioned how the defending IPL champions have a better overall team than the Indian side after the 1st T20I. Jaffer had given him a fitting reply on that occasion too.
In his latest tweet in response to Vaughan’s tweet, Jaffer wrote: “When you say your team wasn’t defeated by a national team but by a franchise team, you’re not trolling your opponents, you’re trolling your own team. Night all.”
