Former Indian opening batsman Wasim Jaffer is known for his wit and humour. The veteran was recently involved with the franchise Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) as their batting coach in the just-concluded 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Though the team failed to make it to the playoffs of the competition, Jaffer garnered a lot of likes and comments on social media for his hilarious one-liners and knack for sharing memes on Twitter. On Saturday, November 21, the cricket news portal ESPNCricinfo urged the Twitterati to name their favourite cricket match but without revealing the name of the players or teams involved.

ESPNcricinfo wrote, “Without naming any teams or players, what’s your favourite cricket match of all time?” Wasim Jaffer used this opportunity to hilariously troll the veteran Indian spinner and former Kings XI Punjab player Ravichandran Ashwin. The batsman came up with a meme from the famous Bollywood movie, Lagaan and tagged Ashwin to take a jibe at the off-spinner.

The meme was picked from the famous cricket scene of the movie Lagaan, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. It depicted an English character mankading an Indian batsman to take his wicket. Notably, Ashwin was all over the news in the last edition of the Indian Premier League for running out Jos Buttler as he left the crease early.

Ashwin’s this move had hogged all the limelight and had stirred a debate in the cricket fraternity. The off-spinner was also left in splits looking at Wasim Jaffer’s tweet.

Ravichandran Ashwin in IPL 2020

Ashwin had a decent run for his new IPL franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2020 edition of the T20 Championship. In 15 matches, the spinner picked 13 wickets at an economy of 7.66 and average of 30.07. 3/29 was the most economical spell bowled by Ashwin in IPL 2020.

As far as his IPL franchise Delhi is concerned, they made their maiden appearance in the final of the league on November 10, 2020 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium against defending champions Mumbai Indians. However, the team failed to lift their maiden IPL trophy as Mumbai registered a victory by 5 wickets to emerge victorious for the record fifth time.
