The Women’s Big Bash League is underway in Australia with the eight teams fighting it out to crown the champions of the second WBBL. In a recent game between the Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers, Sydney wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy effected a brilliant flick run out to dismiss JL Barsby of the Heat.

On the penultimate ball of the last over of the innings, Barsby who was batting on 26 hit an Ellyse Perry delivery on the on-side. They surely wanted to go for a double with HL Ferling at the other end batting yet to open her account. It went to the fielder in the deep who was charging at the ball and threw it in a swift motion.

Barsby still had a chance to get inside the crease in time, given the throw was not spot on at the target and was well over the wicketkeeper’s head but that is when Healy used the trick. She had one eye on the ball and other on Barsby who was sprinting in. The Sixers keeper collected the ball quite high in the air and at some distance from the stumps, she didn’t have time to go around and dislodge the bails that is when she decided to try flicking it back.

The flick throw, it is just a deflection, the wicketkeeper doesn’t grab the ball but collects it and shows it the direction towards the stumps, something Indian limited-overs captain MS Dhoni has done with precision at the highest level and made it a popular trick for the keepers.

Healy’s throw hit the stumps and the bails were off before Barsby who running hard to complete the second run could get it. This was the ninth dismissal of the Heat innings while they had just managed 82 runs in their innings.
