Misunderstandings between the batsmen always become a topic of discussion among cricket lovers. Some are funny while some are due to lack of judgment. Here in this video, Andrew Strauss getting run-out is another example of it.

New Zealanders were playing against the hosts England. England were at 142/2 while chasing a target of 282 set by Stephen Fleming’s side. Nasser Hossain was at the strike while Andrew Strauss was at the other end. Hossain was new to the crease while Strauss was set at the score of 83. And, this is when a blunder happened.

Chris Martin ran into bowl an off cutter which was pushed on the off side by Nasser Hossain. He immediately left the crease for a quick single, but Strauss wasn’t ready and looked confused. He did not move at all until Hossain was half way down the pitch. By then, Chris Cairns collected the ball and simply threw it to wicketkeeper McCullum who snapped off the bails.

Strauss just ran as a formality to save Hossain’s wicket. It was a tight run, but there was a run. Strauss simply did not show any presence of mind which eventually cost him his wicket.

This Test match was special in many ways. It marked the 500th appearance of Richie Benaud in the commentary box while it also happened to be Andrew Strauss’s debut match. And, he was on his way of making it into a special landmark.

Strauss had already hit a century in the first innings and was on the verge of scoring another century and create history. But, fate had other things written for him.
