New Zealand cricket team’s practice match was halted due to an unusual reason after a swarm of bees invaded the ground. The new Zealand team were currently playing Zimbabwe A at the Harare Sports Club when the bees came buzzing to make everyone duck for cover.
However, according to Kiwi World T20 star Mitchell Santner, there was not much to worry about as the bees hovered near the sight screen.
All-rounder Mitch Santner, returning to the Black Caps after fracturing a finger in late May, says the unexpected apiarian onslaught had sent his teammates in a tizzy. However, not everyone was worried as few people sitting behind the glass doors enjoyed and laughed at the situation.
“A swarm of bees floated in front of the sight screen there. Boulty hit the deck pretty early and from there, everyone else seemed to hit the deck,” he said.
“I was the only one standing, I think you’ll find.
“They were quite far away so I don’t know why everyone was on the ground. I didn’t feel I was in too much danger.”
The bees after some time moved on and the play resumed. The New Zealanders are having a good time in the middle against Zimbabwe A. The bowlers skittled out the host team for just 114 after the Kiwis made 345/7 decl. on day one. Leg spinner Ish Sodhi led the way with figures of 4/18 along with Doug Bracewell who took 2/24. The Kiwis ended the day 2 with 154/4 on the scoreboard and hold a strong 385 runs lead.
