The 3rd match of BBL 5 witnessed a thrilling encounter at the Gabba between the visiting side Melbourne Renegades and the home team Brisbane Heat. A rollicking partnership of 111 from just 76 balls between the Renegades skipper Aaron Finch and Cameron While put the visitors in a strong position before the West Indian all-rounder, Dwayne Bravo, played a gem of a cameo to give the men in red a brilliant win. Chasing a target of 181 Melbourne’s batsmen played some outrageous shots, none more so than the one hit by White over long-on for a four.
Coming into bat one down, at the fall of Chris Gayle’s wicket, White settled in nicely and kept rotating the strike. With Finch going great guns at the other end he gave preferred not to take any undue risks. He took singles and doubles at will and kept milking the bowling comfortably. With 61 needed from 35 balls, White produced a marvellous four over deep midwicket. The experienced right-hander, batting on 32 off 31 balls including 3 fours, hit a tennis-like smash to a short ball dispatching it for a spectacular boundary.
At the end of 16 over the Renegades needed 41 off 24 with the two set batsmen at the crease. White, batting on 47 off 37 balls including 4 fours, knew the time had arrived to open up his shoulders and he did so in some style hitting a wonderful straight six. Two wickets in 2 balls at the end of the over, those of Finch and White did put the game in balance however Bravo’s unbeaten 22 of just 9 balls sealed the deal for the visitors with 3 balls to spare in a rip-roaring contest.
