Chris Gayle scored the first ever Double-Hundred in World Cups.

Watch: Chris Gayle storm to the fastest ODI double hundred: Christopher Henry Gayle, we know him as a destructive, gigantic, unstoppable, and ruthless batsman. He is known to own a unidirectional approach to his batting that of clearing the ball right out of the park. But today we saw him in a different mindset, he watched the ball closely, and not that he missed scoring opportunities but Gayle certainly did not throw his bat at everything and anything that was on offer.

The initial silent phase made way for a well paced, beautifully constructed innings and Chris put a huge price on his wicket. The first hundred had the patient phase involved so it was slower and took him 105 balls to get to the triple-figures. What followed was manhandling of the Zimbabwe bowling attack, which lost all its confidence by the time West Indies innings wrapped up.

Gayle stormed the next 100 runs in only 33 balls thus also completing his and the first double hundred in ICC Cricket World Cup history. He became the first non-Indian batsman to do so and the fourth overall, his 215 is the fifth score of 200 or more in 50 over’s cricket.

What was impressive, unmatched was the scale at which he cleared the fence, 16 6s and 10 4s came together in the innings which lasted for 138 balls and he scored 215 runs in it. This is by far the fastest double ton that has been registered in ODI cricket, beating all the previous record holders Gayle is now at the pinnacle of the 200 club, with Rohit Sharma still being the highest run-scorer.
