It was an unusual gesture from the Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner at the crease that saw him stop midway through a run. Warner paused a brief while, helped the bowler on his way, and then continued with his run to complete the single. The action perspired during the 7th match of the season when the Sunrisers Hyderabad hosted the Gujarat Lions at Hyderabad.
Young Kerala pacer Basil Thampi bowled a full length delivery that the batsman hit straight down the ground. Warner, the non-striker batsman, started off with the run. Meanwhile, Thampi tumbled on his followed through and fell on the pitch. He also saw his shoe get off and fly. The SRH skipper saw this and stopped midway in his run to pick up the shoe and handed it over to Thampi.
He then took off for the run again after giving the shoe. Without thinking of the run out, Warner upheld the spirit of the game. The commentators loved the gesture and spoke about it too. Or perhaps David Warner was confident of the fact that the Gujarat Lions players will not be able to get him out. Warner led his side to an emphatic 9 wicket win in the match to register the team’s second win of the season.
Chasing a modest 135 to win, SRH lost Shikhar Dhawan cheaply on 9. Warner and Moises Henriques then added an unbeaten 108 run stand to see SRH cruise to their second home win this season. Earlier in the match, Gujarat Lions had a flyinf start to their innings with Jason Roy going all guns blazing. However, it was Rashid Khan who dented the Lions with a triple strike. Scores in thirties from Dwayne Smith and Dinesh Karthik helped the visitors score 135 in their innings.
