Indian cricketer and the Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir has been very vocal about his patriotism in the recent times. He recently won over a million hearts with his kind gesture for the martyred CRPF Jawans of the Sukma Attack. Gambhir had announced that he will bear the educational costs of all the children of the martyred soldiers of the Sukma Attack.
His love and respect for the soldiers and the Indian army know no bounds. Soon after being named the Player of the Match in the fixture for Kolkata Knight Riders against the Delhi Daredevils, Gautam Gambhir announced that the prize money he earns would go to the funds for the families of Sukma martyrs. He announced this at the post match presentation ceremony.
Ravi Shastri spoke at length about the match to Gambhir. Just when Gambhir was about to walk off after the talk, Shastri asked him to wait and announced that he was the Man of the Match too. It was just then that the veteran Delhi cricketer conceded that the prize money will be all donated to the CRPF Jawans martyred in Sukma. He noted that the soldiers gave their lives for the people of India, and hence he can at least do this much for them.
“One more thing, I think whatever awards I have earned, all the money goes to the victims of CRPF Jawans who got martyed in Sukma. I am a very proud Indian and I want to contribute and hopefully everyone can contribute. They gave their lives for us. Hopefully, we can do this much,” quoted Gautam Gambhir in the post-match presentation.
The inhuman incident took place on April 25 in Sukma, Chhattisgarh. Over 3400 rounds of live firing were shot at the CRPF jawans deployed in the region. It was the troop of 36 Jawans that was attacked by the Naxalites. The sad part was that the soldiers were not even prepared for it and were having their lunch when the Maoists opened fire at them. 25 soldiers lost their lives in the brutal attack.
