Watch: Grant Elliot gives a perfect reply to Matthew Wade's sledge

New Zealand seamer Grant Elliot and Australian Wicketkeeper batsman Matthew Wade indulged in a sledging banter in the third ODI at Seddon Park, Hamilton. The Kiwis eventually beat the Australians to pick up a win in the decider and to also secure the Chappel-Hadlee Trophy.

While sledging has always been frowned upon and not even remotely ‘within the spirit’ of the game, a few players still indulge themselves in unnecessary sledging. Batting in what seemed to be a lost cause, Matthew Wade’s expressions quite clearly exhibited his displeasure and frustration. Grant Elliot, who was bowling at the time to Wade, allegedly passed a few words to the wicket-keeper batsman.

Wade, however, didn’t take too well to the comments passed with a quick but short reply. His comments were picked up by the stump mike. According to the audio released, Wade was quoted saying, “You’re a f*cking coward if you sledge people when they walk off”

Unfazed by the comments passed by Mathew Wade, Grant Elliot’s response was almost too perfect. In reply, Elliot said, “Hey Wadey, love your work buddy.”

The 3^rd and final ODI also marked a special occasion for 34-year-old Kiwi batsman Brendon McCullum. The latter, who chose to announce his retirement in the final ODI led his side for the final time. His retirement was however overshadowed by the Elliot-Wade sledging incident.
