After a disastrous day one, the Indian team is doing everything possible to get the better of the dominating Australians. Tempers usually flow when the two high ranked sides India and Australia meet but something unusual happened on day two in Bangalore.
After Ravichandran Ashwin brilliantly dismissed opener David Warner, Steve Smith came out to bat. In an attempt to unsettle the Australian skipper Steve Smith, Ishant Sharma made a funny face which left everyone laughing and amused. Ishant beat Smith a few times, the ball keeping low on occasions. After a ball beat the Australian captain Ishant Sharma quite surprisingly shook his head vigorously and made faces at the right-handed batsman. Off the very next ball which Steve Smith defended very well, the batsman made an unusual gesture to counter Ishant Sharma. These incidents left the Indian skipper Virat Kohli in splits including all the others in the stands.
A quite similar incident took place in the first Test match at Pune where India were convincingly beaten by the Aussies. Australia were batting at 37 for 2 when Ravindra Jadeja delivery beat Steve Smith to which the batsman shrugged his head. The left-arm spinner then broke into a mini jig swaying his head and shoulders. The situation would have become worse if the Australian skipper would not have handled the situation calmly with a smile.
All these incidents take us back to the 2007-08 India-Australia series which saw the happening of the famous ‘Monkeygate’ incident involving Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh. The 2011-12 series was no different where Virat Kohli clashed with David Warner.
