Mahela Jayawerdene take an absolutely stunning catch against New Zealand

Watch: Mahela Jayawardene take an absolutely stunning catch against New Zealand: Cricket offers you opportunity and not assurity. If you are sharp enough to pounce upon the game turns in favor. Teams these days have vibrant bunch of fielders who are always on their toes to grab anything that is on offer and convert the slightest chances and half chances into wickets. Slips catching is one such aspect where the reflexes are tested real-time. Sri Lankan cricket is blessed to have Mahela Jayawardene play for them in every sense. He proved it once again the reason he is considered one of the best asset for the team as he took an absolutely stunning catch at first slip to get rid off New Zealand’s No. 3 and the best batsman in the Kiwi line-up Kane Williamson off the bowling of off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake in the One Day International (ODI) match at Hagley Oval, Christchurch yesterday on the 11th January 2015.

Earlier in the match Jayawardene had also played a saviour knock scoring 104 runs from 107 ball. A run a ball hundred took Sri Lanka to 218 in the end though not a huge total but, with something for their bowlers to defend. In the entire Sri Lankan team it was only Jayawardene who made a considerable contribution all other batsmen fell cheap.

New Zealand too were struggling at one point on 77 for 4 in 11.1 over’s. But things changed thereafter as Black Caps all-rounder Corey Anderson crafted his way to a half century (81) and took the team past the target Sri Lanka had set with comfort.
Though the match will be in memory as a New Zealand victory but Jayawardene’s innings and catch does stand out.
