Durham produced almost an upset in the NatWest T20 Blast last night when they beat the tournament favourites Gloucestershire by 19 runs in the quarter-final at Bristol. One thing that stood out in the match was an absolute breathtaking catch by the Durham wicketkeeper Michael Richardson in the 5th over of the innings to dismiss the dangerous looking Michael Klinger. Gloucestershire’s hopes of victory have so often come to rest on the shoulders of the irrepressible Klinger, especially after the loss of 2 early wickets.
Klinger hit Chris Rushworth for a couple of boundaries and a six in the fifth over and suddenly found some extra bounce and it took the outside edge and Richardson, who had a good day with the bat held onto an unbelievable catch by his right standing up to the stumps.
Durham started off well with an opening stand of 96 to make a very competitive total 180 for five from their 20 overs, courtesy Mark Stoneman who remained the top scorer for Durham with a 41-ball 61.

In the chase for 181, Gloucestershire never looked in control as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Jack Taylor was the only player to score over 20 runs for them and he went on to score his career-best score of 80 runs from 41 balls but wasn’t able to take his side home.
When Collingwood was withdrawn from the attack mid over after bowling two full tosses above waist height in the 16th over of the match, having conceded 22 runs from three legal deliveries gave some worry for the Durham side.
Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire had already booked their places at finals day at the expense of South Group opponents and Paul Collingwood’s side followed suit despite Jack Taylor’s one man show.
