Watch: Mohammad Amir strikes early on England tour

Prior to boarding the plane to England, the Pakistan cricket management had somewhat of a conundrum when the issue of Mohammad Amir was brought up. Having been one of the implicated players in the infamous 2010 spot-fixing scandal, Amir’s decision to make a comeback at the age of 23 is something that certainly defies all expectations of humanity.

Having made the squad and boarded the flight to England, Amir’s participation was still clouded when the Pakistan management was uncertain about how the youngster would be heckled by the hostile England crowds who despise him for what happened in 2010.

However, after braving it, for the most part, Amir turned out for his side in the first warm-up match of the tour against Somerset. Opting to bat first on difficult pitch and weather conditions at Taunton, Younis Khan showed what he was made of by smashing a marvelous century. He was well supported by the seasoned Asad Shafiq who slammed a valiant 80 while Shaan Masood smashed a wonderful 62.

In spite of not having made much of an impact with the bat, Amir made it count with the ball as he was brought on early in the Pakistan innings. He bowled exceedingly well as he removed Marcus Trescothick for a wonderfully crafted out-swinger. Although it would have perhaps been a regulation delivery for Amir, the fact that it swung as much as it did defies almost all expectation.

While the Trescothick wicket was impressive, the follow-up wicket from Amir was yet another impressive one. It just proved how good Amir is. Bowling perhaps one of his best in-swingers, Amir knocked over the off-stump of Adam Hose.
