MS Dhoni

Indian skipper MS Dhoni had played just 9 balls before he walked out ahead of Yuvraj Singh, ahead of Suresh Raina and ahead of everyone else to join Virat Kohli in the middle to take the team home when they needed 22 runs off 14 balls to win their 6th Asia Cup title. He took a quick double and a single to keep the strike going into the penultimate over of the match. Team India now needed 19 off 12 to win the first ever Asia Cup T20.

Bangladesh’s most successful bowler Al-Amin was asked by the skipper to do the job for them and here is how the over which eventually proved to be the last of the game played.

1st ball – Al-Amin Hossain to MS Dhoni, six. He bowled at the perfect length to be hit. It was in his arc and Dhoni stood firm and hit the ball over midwicket for a 104m monster six. This six resembled the World Cup 2011 winning shot.

2nd ball – Al-Amin to Dhoni, a single. It was in the blockhole Dhoni manages just a single.

3rd ball – Al-Amin to Kohli, 3 runs. It was a full toss, Kohli drove it down the ground, looked good enough for a boundary but Mahmudullah’s dive saved the boundary, a throw at the non-strikers end went for an extra run and that brought Dhoni back on strike.

4th ball – Al-Amin to Dhoni, boundary. He lofted the full delivery, an inside-out shot over covers, it fell just inside the ropes, inches short of a six.

5th ball – Al-Amin to Dhoni, six.  Dhoni once again hits the winning runs with a six. It was a low full toss and Dhoni swung hard at it and cleared midwicket boundary. Kohli ran towards Dhoni as soon as he hit that one, he knew it was a six the moment the skipper connected.
