Former Australian spin bowling legend, Shane Warne is considered as one of the finest and most intelligent spinners the cricketing world has ever seen. He was successful most times when he walked out with a ball in hand regardless of the kind of support the wicket offered.

He had once said that he used to move a fielder back and forth and eventually keep him wherever he was earlier, just to boggle the minds of the batsmen – at the end of the day, cricket is also a mind game.

This was one of those moments where Sri Lanka was well on their way to the victory with just 63 runs from 68 balls with 6 wickets in hand. Roshan Mahanama was the batsman on strike and Warne had a strong appeal for lbw, but the umpire let him down. Mahanama was not happy with the way wicketkeeper Ian Healy appealed and both had a heated exchange.

Shane Warne read the situation exactly well and made full use of the situation as the batsman’s concentration was low after the sledging incident with the wicket-keeper. He sent one of his googlies (or wrong ‘un) on leg-stump line and he was in no position to get bat on ball.

Mahanama stepped down to the leg-side to work the ball through the off-side, but was late to pick the googly and ended up trying to flick it to the leg, but was too late for that.
