Very few people would have had the kind of childhood that former India captain Sourav Ganguly had. His house was not a normal 2 BHK, but a bungalow of 40 bedrooms right in the central region of Kolkata. The 45-year-old, who after retiring as a player is involved in cricket administration, still stays in the same bungalow along with his wife and daughter Sana.

The house looks absolutely lavish to say the least. Its exterior, as well as the interior, give it a royal appearance. There is a separate room where all the trophies and awards that the former Indian captain won at different stages of his career have been kept. That room has a photo of Ganguly’s late dad Mr Chandidas Ganguly as well who himself was a cricketer and later was an office bearer in the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

Dada came through the ranks of Bengal cricket set up to break into the state’s Ranji team before making it to the national ranks to eventually go on and represent India in a number of games. The left-hander captained the country in an aggressive way and completely changed the thought process of the team during his regime. The southpaw who is fondly called the Prince of Kolkata is still quite a star in India even though he is not playing the game anymore.

In a video released by Asian Paints recently, Ganguly can be seen talking about his home, how he is emotionally attached to it and how it gives him a feeling of comfort the moment he steps into its surroundings. The legend reveals that he has lived with his entire life in the same house and his family had actually been living here for two decades before his birth.

“I’ve grown up in this house even before I picked up a cricket bat. My family has lived here for 64 years. For me, this is home, this is the place where I get happiness and peace with all the people around.”

“It’s a comfort feeling when you enter this area, you enter the gate and you walk down the drive way. It’s relaxing and comforting. After I go away from the city for a while, I long to come back to this wonderful place.” Ganguly said.
