Watch: The Best catches of the Pepsi IPL 2014: As we prepare ourselves for the 45 odd days of mind-blowing T20 action, let’s roll the reel back and take a look at some of the moments which dominated the previous season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Here are the 10 best catches of the Pepsi IPL 2014 (Numbers represent the chronological order they are placed in and not their rank) 1. Chris Lynn (KKR): RCB v KKR: Chris Lynn, Kolkata Knight Rider’s Australian recruit, took a magnificent catch at the fence to get rid of the destructive RCB batsman AB de Villiers. This is a really fine effort from Lynn, he initially either misjudged it or was not able to pick the trajectory of the ball perfectly, but covered it up with his brilliance. 2. Dinesh Karthik (DD): DD v KKR: Dinesh Karthik Delhi Daredevil’s wicket keeper grabbed this amazing catch of KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir behind the wickets; though the catch had very little importance with the perspective of the match, none the less it was a one of the best that we saw in Pepsi IPL 7. 3. Dale Steyn (SRH): DD v SRH: Dale Steyn is strong, he is tall and quick, we all know that; but it is rare that we see a fast bowler pull up something as exciting on the field. Guarding the long off fence Steyn caught this one out of thin air, a meritorious shot by Karthik deserved to go to the fence but was halted mid way by Steyn. 4. Suresh Raina (CSK): CSK v DD: India and CSK have been blessed to have a fielder like Suresh Raina in the squad. A really smart hitter of the ball Raina equals his batting effort on the field as well with some wonderful catches, ground fielding and bowling. 5. Faf du Plessis (CSK): CSK v DD: Faf du Plessis has been a real asset for the Chennai Super Kings since he debuted for the team. One of the most stable batsmen, Faf also ads on as an excellent fielder in the unit. He picked up this catch of Murali Vijay which went miles in the air, running backwards he had his eyes set on the ball and completed it to be one of the best catches we saw in the season. 6. Steve Smith (RR) – RR v CSK: Steve Smith while on the field resembles the Super Man. He is not just athletic but acrobatic and does not think twice before throwing his body in the air. In this match against the mighty CSK, their opener Brendon McCullum, hit an aerial shot on the on side, there were three fielders running for it. Smith kept his eyes on the ball and did not get distracted and completed a fantastic catch. 7. Ryan ten Doeschate (KKR) – RR v KKR: The only Netherlands player to ever feature in the Indian domestic league, Ryan ten Doeschate is not only a superb batsman but an equally good fielder. In this match against the RR placed at the long on fence, he was standing a few yards inside the ropes and when this Stuart Binny shot came his way, Doeschate judged it to perfection and dived to complete it. 8. Ben Dunk (MI) – MI v KXIP: Mumbai Indian’s Australian star Ben Dunk pulled off a stunner on the field, to dismiss the danger man Kings XI Punjab’s David Miller. Lasith Malinga was the bowler and in his bid to up the ante Miller struck one hard down the ground, it was not timed perfectly and we felt it would bump before the fielder; but Dunk put a forward dive to complete a good looking low catch. 9. Kieron Pollard (MI) – MI v RR: He is tall, he is huge, yet athletic this is how Kieron Pollard appears on the field. He is a useful fielder to have in the circle and the best guy to have at the ropes towards the end of the innings. Pollard uses his towering height optimally to reach out to balls which would have and should have sailed over the fence ideally. Similar thing happened here as he reached out, stopped the ball and before losing balance threw it inside and then went on to complete what was one of the most exciting catches of the season. 10. Mitchell Starc (RCB) – KCIP v RCB: Mitchell Starc is one of the fastest bowlers in international cricket today, clocking consistently in the 150 kmph range. And once someone who bowls that quick is done with a spell, must be really tired; displaying utmost fitness and commitment, Starc first covered the distance quickly at the fine leg boundary and then judged this catch to perfection as the ball was travelling and travelling really fast, a real beauty of a catch.
