Virat Kohli, Indian Test skipper, today turned a year older. Born on November 5th 1988, the flamboyant right-hander has raised the standards of Indian cricket greatly with high-intensity cricketing skills. Fans, current and former cricketers all lined up on twitter right from the stroke of midnight to wish the ‘King Kohli’ on his birthday. While everyone celebrated his birthday by pouring in well-wishes on the social media platform, Kohli enjoyed a calm cake cutting celebration with his family and friends.
His international career has been great so far. Since making his debut in 2008, Kohli has earned 48 Test and 176 ODI caps. It didn’t take much time for the passionate cricketer to stamp his authority in the cricketing world. he quickly carved a permanent place in the national setup and in 2014, was appointed as India’s captain in the longest format of the game after MS Dhoni’s retirement.
Widely regarded as one of the best batsmen in the world, Kohli is one of the few players to have found success in all three formats of the game and has scored Test, ODI and T20 centuries. 2016, especially, has been his year overall in terms as far as batting is concerned.
He enjoyed a stellar run in the World T20 and IPL. And later, under him, Indian went on to register emphatic wins in West Indies and whitewashing New Zealand to claim the top spot in the Test rankings.
