Jammu and Kashmir might not be too heavy a name in Ranji Trophy but this year, they are on a roll. Having won just 20-odd matches in the coveted tournament since making their debut in the late 1950s, J&K had the sky as their limit and they have produced an impressive show this year.

Clubbed in Elite Group C with nine other teams, they are ranked fourth at the moment with 20 points from four outings. Parvez Rasool’s side has picked three wins so far while their game against Assam was drawn. Odisha are leading the group with 22 points while Haryana are at the second spot with 21 points.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan took to Twitter to praise Jammu and Kashmir for their 173-run win over Services at Palam A Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday. In an all-round show, J&K prevented the opponents to overhaul the target of 320 and skittled them out for just 146.

Captain Parvez Rasool was picked Man of the Match against Services

Rasool, who is the hilly state’s only international player till date, was adjudged the man of the match for his magnificent 182 in the first innings. He also took three wickets in the second innings to derail the Services’ chase. Shubham Pundir also hit a century for J&K in the second innings while medium-pacer Mohammed Mudhasir took six wickets in the match.

In his tweet, Irfan Pathan hailed Jammu and Kashmir over their third win and hashtagged a number of players who were instrumental in registering the thumping win. Besides Rasool, Pundir and Mudhasir, he also tagged first-innings half-centurion opener Shubham Khajuria, Aquib Nabi and Umar Nazir all of whom played some role.

Jammu and Kashmir thumped Uttarakhand by 253 runs in Dehradun in their opening fixture this season and backed it up with a 54-run win over two-time winners and five-time finalists Maharashtra in Pune. Their third match against Assam in Jammu was drawn because of weather conditions. J&K will next take on group toppers Odisha from January 19 and follow it up with matches against Chhattisgarh, Tripura and Haryana.
